Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children has been on my ‘to read’ radar for quite a while, but with the launch of the Tim Burton film later this year, I thought it best to open the book sooner rather than later.
The story follows a young lad who, after a family tragedy, ventures to a remote Welsh island to find a mysterious orphanage. So far, I’m thoroughly enjoying the weird and wonderful world author Ransom Riggs has created, teaming the characters with vintage photographs showing their peculiarities and setting the scene as the story unfolds. I love reading these kinds of stories as they always encourage strong visuals, so I thought it might be fun to sketch a few of the peculiar characters. First up is Olive Abroholos Elephanta, a girl that’s lighter than air and has to be weighted down so not to float away.
